Novice Program Coaches

Novice Program Running Coach - Ashley Edwards
Ashley Edwards is the novice program running coach. Ashley is an accomplished and
experienced adventure racer having competed in over 50 sprint, intermediate and
expedition race events. Ashley has completed ten marathons and is a 2005 Boston
Marathon finisher. Along with her experience, Ashley brings a great deal of enthusiasm
and passion for the sport of adventure racing to the program.

Novice Program Biking Coach - Jim Willis
Jim Willis is the novice program biking coach. Racing with his wife Michele,
"The Willies" have competed in many adventure races throughout Texas and Louisiana,
ranging from two to 30 hours in length. Michele will be assisting with practice and
both are looking forward to sharing their AR experiences with beginning racers.
Jim has the patience, knowledge and experience to take novice bikers to the next
level while having fun at the same time. Now go ride your bike!

Novice Program Paddling Coach - Alan Henson
Alan Henson is the novice paddling coach. He is an experienced paddler who
has paddled in everything from canoes, kayaks, rafts and sevys to 1, 2 and 4-person
scull boats. Alan is an inaugural member of Houston Fit AR and has three years of
AR experience ranging from sprints to 24-hour races, with multiple top five finishes.
Alan is looking forward to passing on his knowledge to new and experienced paddlers
looking to learn or improve basic skills.

Veteran Program Running Coach - Carsten Weber
Carsten Weber is the veteran running coach for Houston Fit AR. He is a former Houston
Fit ATP assistant coach and has completed eight marathons and numerous trail races,
including several Sunmart 50k events. Carsten enjoys trail running and the variety it provides
for runners to challenge themselves and improve strength and endurance.

Veteran Program Biking Coach - Jason Maloney
Jason Maloney is the veteran program biking coach. Jason was a member of the winning
teams in the TSARCS, Lonestar Adventure Racing and Texas State Sprint Championship
Adventure Racing Series. His positive attitude keeps his teammates entertained through
all hours of a race. Jason looks forward to sharing his expertise on the bike, which is
revered by his teammates and his competition.

Veteran Paddling Coach - Chad Giardina
Chad Giardina is the veteran paddling coach. Chad is an experienced
adventure racer who has registered high finishes in adventure races up to three
days in length. He has competed on the international level having completed a
two-day stage adventure race in India as well as paddled class IV rapids in New
Zealand and Switzerland. He is looking forward to sharing his knowledge of paddling
with novice and veteran program members.

Navigation Coach

Navigation Coach - Chad Holman
Chad Holman is the navigation coach. Chad has competed in numerous races ranging
from sprints to multi-day. His analytical mind, positive attitude and strong navigational skills
have helped his teams consistently finish at the front of pack. He looks forward to
sharing his knowledge of navigation and sparking new members’ interest in the sport of AR.

Substitute Coaches

Substitute Coach - Angus Reid
Angus Reid is substitute coach for Houston Fit AR. He is a former
competitive rugby player who competed at the international level.
Since ending his rugby career he has completed the Kilauea Volcano
Trails marathon, and the Houston and Austin marathons. Angus was
a member of the Houston Fit Advanced Training Program (ATP) subset
known as the "ATP hardcores" and completed his first
ironman triathlon this past summer.

Substitute Coach - Arild Jakobsen
Arild Jakobsen is a substitute coach for Houston Fit AR. An avid adventure racer
known for his paddling, gadgetry and logistics coordination, he has amassed several
adventure racing victories over the last three years.
Prior to adventure racing, Arild focused on Marathon Olympic Kayaking (K-2), earning a
bronze medal at the Norwegian Championships. While focused on his family obligations
he looks forward to lending a hand with the programs as time permits.

Substitute Coach - Jenny Watterson
Jenny Watterson is a substitute coach for Houston Fit AR. Jenny is an
experienced adventure racer having competed in sprint to mid-length expedition
races throughout Texas and Louisiana. In addition to adventure racing, she has
competed in several mountain bike races and enjoys other extreme sports like
windsurfing. Her fun and aggressive personality and supportive attitude are
sure to help veteran bikers reach their goals. Come ready to be challenged,
exhilarated and go fast!

Substitute Coach - Joe Constantino
Joe Constantino is a substitute coach for Houston Fit AR. He is an accomplished ultramarathoner
having completed over 30 ultras. Joe has completed the Grand Slam of ultrarunning which is
recognition for those who complete four of the oldest 100 mile trail runs in the U.S.. The "Slam"
consists of officially finishing the Western States 100 Mile Endurance Run, the Vermont 100 Mile
Endurance Run, the Leadville Trail 100 Mile Run and the Wasatch Front 100 Mile Endurance Run all in the
same summer. Somehow Joe has managed to squeeze in a few sprint and 24-hour adventure races as well.

Substitute Coach - Justin Cremer
Justin Cremer is a substitute coach for Houston Fit AR. A recovering long-distance
runner, Justin has been racing mountain bikes since 1989 and has raced in
several states along the east cost, the Midwest and (of course) Texas. Justin has
raced in several adventure races,
but prefers to go as fast as possible on two wheels. He races locally for Team
BikeSport.

Substitute Coach - Matt Kulow
Matt Kulow is a substitute coach for Houston Fit AR. Matt is an experienced
adventure racer having completed multiple races and national championships of
varying length. Matt is a past Quest champion, excels during the paddling
section of sprint races, and is much more cheerful than he appears in this
picture.

Substitute Coach - Ray Rojas
Ray Rojas is a substitute coach for Houston Fit AR. A successful competitive
paddler for several years, Ray competed on open ocean six-man outrigger canoe
teams. He's participated in the Molokai crossing and also won gold for Guam
at the 1998 Micronesian Games in Palau. Ray is now making his transition
to adventure racing. He is looking forward to helping members improve
their paddling skills, and learning about AR from them in the process.

Substitute Coach - Rob Graham
Rob Graham is a substitute coach for Houston
Fit AR. He is the former Houston FIT ATP coach and a Boston Marathon
qualifier. Rob has raced on teams that have won several series
(including the Texas Sprint Adventure Racing Series and the now-defunct
Lone Star Adventure Racing series) and multiple 24 hour events.
When he's not spending time with his family or bowling, Rob is
looking for new workouts to improve the running of the veteran
members of the club.

Substitute Coach - Tracy Jones
Tracy Jones is a substitute coach for Houston Fit AR.
Tracy has an extremely diverse athletic background having competed
in collegiate track and cross country, mountain bike races, duathlons
and triathlons and enjoys rock climbing and caving. She has amassed
an impressive array of AR victories and is known throughout the
Texas AR community as a fierce competitor. She looks forward to
applying her knowledge of AR racing and training to make others
successful in the sport.
